Naruto VS Sasuke

Naruto VS Sasuke

If you are an anime fan, then Naruto: Shippuden is sure to ring a bell. It is the sequel to the famous Shonen anime Naruto. The anime is based on the manga written and drawn by Kishimoto Sensei.

The story is filled with many magnificent characters. They have well-developed stories and character development. But among all the hundreds of characters, two names stand out the most. They are non-other than Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha.

They are portrayed as rival-friends. They think of each other to be rivals and friends at the same time. However, it is Naruto who considers them to be more of friends than rivals. The case is entirely opposite in the case of Sasuke. He thinks of Naruto as a rival who he needs to overcome. But deep down, he still takes him as a friend.

Being the Jinchuriki of the Nine Tail Fox, Naruto was an outcast since childhood. But this didn’t bring him down. In fact, he had a cheerful personality. He was always the first one to cause trouble and also solve them. In the anime Naruto: Shippuden, this personality of his changed for the better. He became more reliable and straightforward. In short, he is a simple-minded and cheerful person.

On the other hand, Sasuke has a stubborn, arrogant, and yet smart personality. Seeing his parents getting killed in front of him, he had a traumatic childhood. This led him to act like a spoiled brat. The only goal he ever had was to restore his clan. He planned to get rid of anyone who stands in his way.

The way both of their personalities morphed is somewhat intriguing. They both were orphans from an early age. The only difference was how they were treated. One was treated as an outcast, and the other wanted to be treated as such.

For instance, since childhood, Naruto only wanted one thing. It was to be acknowledged by everyone. So, when he saw that Sasuke lost his entire clan, he wanted to be his friend. That is because Naruto knows the pain of being alone. But to Sasuke, this act of friendship was nothing but an act of pity.

Sasuke might not have ever thought of Naruto as a friend, but he did take him to be his rival. From Sasukes’ point of view, the talentless Naruto, who was always trying his best, was something that he will never be able to achieve. This also led to Naruto finding a rival in Sasuke. This led to them having a friend-rival relationship. This added a unique take to the usual friendship troupe.

At the end of the anime, both Naruto and Sasuke become two of the best ninjas in their village. They each have varieties of jutsus they specialize in that compliments their fighting style. Their power level is somewhat similar, but the tools are different.

Naruto and Sasuke both have almost infinite chakra because they are both the reincarnations of Asura and Indra. But in this case, there is a slight variation. Being the Jinchuriki of the Nine Tail Fox, Naruto has a slight advantage over Sasuke in terms of chakra pool. Both of them are also sages, so they can harness Sage chakra from nature.

In terms of ninjutsu, Sasuke has the upper hand. He is able to use all the intermediate ninjutsu, and he also has Chidori in his arsenal. He is mainly proficient in Chidori and Fire release jutsus. Even though Naruto drew the short stick in this one, he is impressive in his own rights. Due to his immense chakra pool, he can create a near-infinite number of Shadow Clones. On top of that, he has also perfected the Rasengan, which he can use alongside his clones.

Sasuke being an Uchiha, has the Kekkei Genkai, which grants him Sharingans. His Sharingan allows him to use Susano, the complete defense, and Amaterasu, the highest offense. He also gets Rennegan when he is granted the chakra possessed by Indra.

Even though Naruto does not possess any Kekkei Genkai, he still has the power of Jinchuriki. This allows him to be in constant Sage mode. Moreover, after he receives Asuras chakra, he can perform Senjutsu, the ultimate form of sage mode. He can use the chakra from the Nine Tail to wear a chakra cloak, which gives him a massive boost to his offense and defense.

Combat Style

The abilities they both possess are on another level. They are the reincarnations of Asura and Indra. Their jutsus alone cannot clarify their strength. Their approach to any fight was mainly what separated them.

Naruto always took things in the simplest way. He had an infinite supply of shadow clones which is why he brute-forced his way in any fight. But sometimes, he uses some strategy accidentally to outsmart his opponents.

Being smart, Sasuke had an opposite approach to fight. He was considered a genius from his childhood. So, he utilized his brain to outsmart his opponents. He used his different skills instead of just brute-forcing his way.

Stats Here’s a rough comparison between their individual stats. The stats are out of 5 and based on the status published in the Naruto Secret: Scroll of People Character Official Databook.

The table shows that Naruto had only 26 out of the possible 40, whereas Sasuke is at 31.5. This clearly indicates that Sasuke is better at combat than Naruto. But the way they approach the fight can change the outcome without a doubt.

  Naruto Sasuke
Ninjutsu 4 5
Taijutsu 3.5 3.5
Genjutsu 2 4
Intelligence 3 3.5
Strength 3.5 3.5
Speed 3.5 4.5
Stamina 5 3.5
Handseals 1.5 4

Both of these characters have entirely different takes on life. One only sees the best in others. Whereas the other only sees the worst in others. It is leadless to say which is which. There is a good reason for such a diverse ideology.

Naruto was an orphan since birth and was treated as an outcast. But he always saw the good in others. That is why he wanted to unite everyone. He had the same ideology as Hashirama Senju and Asura. He represented the hope part that is hidden in everyone. His aim since childhood was to become the Hokage. At first, he wanted this just to be acknowledged by everyone. But as the story progressed, he understood the meaning of unity. That is why he wanted to become the Hokage so he could unite all and fight off disparity.

Sasuke was not born an orphan. He had a happy childhood until the day his whole clan was wiped out. He and his elder brother Itachi Uchiha were the only survivors. But he was further traumatized because it was Itachi who killed the whole clan. This pushed him towards disparity. He wanted only one thing, revenge for his clan. But this led to an entire spiral staircase of pain and hatred for him. He had his mind, set on revenge, and didn’t care who he hurt while on his revenge path. After he found out about the truth regarding Itachi, he turned his revenge towards Hidden Leaf Village. Even after the fourth great war, he wanted to become Hokage to change the village system using hatred. He represented the hatred found in the depths of the human heart.

Naruto and Sasuke, both of them, wanted the same thing, Betterment of the Hidden Leaf Village. But the path they wanted to achieve this, was entirely opposite. If we consider Naruto represented hope, then Sasuke is the one who represented hatred. One wanted to save people from the path of revenge, while the other was the one on the track.

Final Fight

Even though the personality and ideology they possessed were entirely different, they understood each other like none other. To Naruto, Sasuke was a friend who is crying for help in the heart but doesn’t want to show his weakness. And to Sasuke, Naruto was someone who he must overcome to achieve his goals. But this bitter rivalry made them understand each other from their respective point of view. They hated each other’s guts, but at the same time, they respected each other the most.

Due to this love-hate relationship, they both had an interesting take on their friendship. Their personality and ideology are opposite and similar, both at the same time. It depends on how you want to perceive it.
